Rotationally Molded (Roto-Molded) Cases from PSI

What is a Roto-Molded Case?

Commonly referred to as a roto-molded case, rotationally molded cases are cost-effective shipping cases produced using a special, three-stage rotational molding process. Roto-molded cases are light-weight, seamless, stress-free products to meet precise requirements much more economically than injection molding or blow molding.

What is the Rotational Molding Process?

The rotational molding process is a three-stage, no-pressure, plastic molding process.

  1. The mold slowly rotates in two planes as heat transfer causes the plastic charge to melt and conform to the interior of the mold. This is known as the Heating Stage.
  2. The mold is then cooled by either air, water spray, or a combination of the two. This is known as the Cooling Stage.
  3. The product is removed from the mold and a new charge is inserted. This is known as the Load/Unload Stage.

What can be created using the Rotational Molding Process?

Aside from the shipping cases, rotational molding can also be used to produce a wide variety of items, from toy dolls to agricultural equipment.

What are the Benefits of Roto-Molded Cases?

These shipping cases have many benefits, including:

  • One-piece construction;
  • Lightweight
  • Superior strength
  • Extremely durable
  • Easily customizable
  • The ability to integrate metal parts and graphics
  • Low production cost
  • Unlimited design possibilities!
