Custom Case Terminology

Custom Case

Reading up on getting a custom case? Here’s some lingo you should know.

Trying to buy a custom case for your industry needs but confused by some of the terminology? PSI Cases wants buying a custom case to be as easy as it possibly can. We’ve identified some industry terms that we believe might be confusing and defined them here for you. Making a custom case shouldn’t be hard–we want you to get the case you need, for whatever application that you may have.

Anti-Static Foam

Transporting electronics can be hard. They’re prone to damage, especially from shock. Anti-static foam has properties that cushion and protect any of your electronic devices from electrostatic shock during transit. This means wherever you go, all of your electronics will be in functioning condition, meaning your case is good!

Single-Lid Vs. Double-Entry

Single-lid cases are the more traditional kinds of cases that you see. They just have one lid that is openable, which means you have increased options as far as customization goes. Double-entry rack mounts actually lock together for easy shipping.

ATA Rated

ATA stands for Air Transport of America, a trade association with their own set of regulations regarding packaging standards for equipment being transported by air. The ATA has outlined a number of necessary standards a custom case built for this purpose has to meet.

G-Factor and G-Force

G-Factor is the number used to express how fragile the item being placed within the custom case is. It’s how many g-forces a case can handle before being negatively affected. A g-force is a measurement of the actual acceleration of a falling object. It’s used in foam packaging as a way to measure the shock equipment experiences when dropped from different heights, so you know how much damage a case can resist.
