PSI and MEGS

The United Service Organization is a nonprofit that was created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1941. The purpose of the organization is to provide our troops with entertainment as they serve our country. Local USOs throughout different countries where troops are stationed provide the men and women with entertainment and time to relax from their high stressed situations. However, troops within the Special Forces are left without these simple pleasures because of their remote locations. According to Brian Hargis, the USO was able to make him a hero to troops within the HALO team from 7th Special Forces Group. How? By providing the troops with MEGS.

MEGS
A Mobile Entertainment Gaming System, or MEG, is a self-contained platform for multimedia use. The equipment is placed within a rugged and durable case that troops are able to transport easily. Within each black case, troops will find an Xbox system along with a monitor, controllers, power strip, Xbox Kinect, games, and DVDs. The USO created this idea and brought their plans and ideas to PSI. After working with PSI, MEGS were being shipped to troops in May of 2012. The CEO of PSI, Jeff Bell, had this to say about the project, “PSI supports the warfighter and is pleased to play a small part in bringing some happiness to those who defend our country on a daily basis.”

PSI uses testing and methods for both the electrical design and the exterior case design that are typically used for military combat equipment to ensure the gaming equipment arrives to its destination safely. In 2014 alone, 92 MEGS were shipped to entertain 11,722 troops in areas like Iraq, Africa, and Afghanistan.

Units can request a MEGS by using this form.
