How Does Roto-Molding Work for Plastic Cases?

If you want to protect your equipment and have a case that stands the test of time, investing in a roto-molded plastic case is a great choice. Here’s why.

One of the most effective processes for creating a custom plastic case is roto-molding. When you’re ordering a custom case, you want to be sure that it will keep your gear and equipment protected during the diverse conditions of travel. In addition, your customizations will set the case apart from others, and provide the exact specifications you need. Roto-molding is known for providing high-quality products that will deliver high performance. If you want to protect your equipment and have a case that stands the test of time, investing in a roto-molded plastic case is a great choice. Here’s why.

The Versatility of Plastic

The first part of roto-molding is short for rotational. That’s because it uses a mold that rotates on two axes at about 20 rotations per minute. The plastic polymer is melted down in a mold that’s been heated in an oven between 500 and 700 degrees. At that point, the mold begins to rotate, and the melted plastic polymer will slowly fill the holes of the mold. The mold rotates at about 20 rotations per minute. The slow rotation is necessary to ensure that the plastic polymer fills and settles into every crack without bubbling, yet it’s fast enough to keep the mold from breaking down and causing a failure. The cooling process must also be slow to avoid warping and bubbling. It’s cooled down by water, air, or a combination. Because the process is slower than other options, many people use roto-molding for orders of smaller quantities.

The Benefits of Roto-Molding

The main benefit of roto-molding is the strength and durability of the final product. The slow speed of the process results in a high-quality plastic case that will be long-lasting and reliable. Roto-molded plastic cases are also cost-effective with fairly quick turnover despite the slow process. Because of its simplicity, it allows the cases to be made without much complication during the process. The molds used for roto-molding can be reused at a later time to make multiple duplicate cases when needed.
