What is a Single Lid Case?
Single lid cases are differentiated from rack mount cases. Single lid cases are simply styled with one entry to allow for a greater freedom in design and customization, whereas rack mount cases are designed to lock together, while still allowing access to the contents of each case when locked together. If you need something portable or don’t need to ship a large item, or multiple items, a single lid case may be perfect for your needs.
Types of Single Lid Cases
In general, there are two different materials we can use to manufacture a single lid case – plastic and aluminum. If you go with plastic, there are two different ways to mold it – rotational and injection molding. Let’s go over the very basics of each option.
- Plastic Rotational Mold: The process of rotational molding allows for the highest level of versatility in design. The result of the process is a highly durable product which can be customized to fit any need.
- Plastic Injection Mold: Cases made with injection molding are strong, waterproof, and resistant to shock just like those made with rotational molding. However, the injection method is not as customizable as rotational molding. The upside is that injection molding is more cost-effective and faster to manufacture, so if you need a number of cases made or don’t have too many customization requirements, this may be a great option for you.
- Aluminum: Aluminum is very versatile and customizable, and its main draw is its light weight. If your case needs to withstand harsh conditions and be easy to carry around, aluminum is the way to go!
