How to Choose the Perfect Custom Case to Meet Your Needs

Custom Case

Learn how to choose a custom case to meet your specific needs.

When looking for a custom carrying case for your product, we know you have one big question on your mind: How do I ensure that my product arrives safely and in perfect condition every time? From motherboards to gourmet food, to medical supplies, your product needs the proper protection and care to withstand impact, water damage, or electrical interference. Whatever your needs, consider these tips when beginning a design for your custom case options:

Consider the Worst Case Scenario

Irreparable damage is the worst case scenario for anyone needing to transport their product. Unfortunately, there are a variety of situations you can’t anticipate that could be detrimental to your product without the right case.

Would your product shatter from a drop or impact? You will want to look for a design with shock protection. Would your product be unusable if it got wet or damp? You should look for a case with a watertight design or purge valve to seal out moisture completely.  Questions like these will steer you in the right directions when buying and designing your custom case.

Think of the Outside Materials

The materials on the exterior of your custom case can be plastic or aluminum, depending on your budget and specific product needs. If you’re concerned about EMI or RF frequencies interfering with your product, an aluminum case will be ideal as they block those frequencies and are lightweight. If you’re shipping your product a long distance, you’ll need a case that can handle rough conditions and high altitudes so that plastic would be perfect for your custom case.

Think of the Inside Materials

While the outer materials are important, the inside components of your custom case matter just as much. Having custom foam inserts in your case will protect your product from impact and potential rough handling in transit. If your product is extremely delicate, you can get a polyurethane foam that provides lightweight shock absorption. If your product is perishable, you can use polystyrene to ensure proper temperature control in transit.
